One of the top reasons to move here is the annual events in Dauphin County. It appears that no matter the occasion, the residents of PA have lots to celebrate. Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire
You don’t have to enjoy the fantasy genre to attend the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire. This annual event showcases an impressive range of cast and entertainment options. Every year, over 100 volunteers settle into the scenic Mount Hope Estate. For about a month, these performers educate and entertain alongside local vendors.
If an afternoon of fake British accents sounds frustrating, fear not. There are beer and wine selections available through local partnerships and even cocktail options. Admission costs $30 at the door and does not include food or rides. Children ages four and under can attend for free, and ages 5 – 11 pay $16.
York Fair
York Fair has the distinction of remaining the nation’s first fair event. While it’s difficult to confirm that claim, the first one was held in 1765. Over 250 years later, it remains a popular fair to attend each late-summer season. Today, families can still find plenty of thrill rides and snacks, as well as live concerts.
In true state fair fashion, the York Fair also has competitions and exhibits to enjoy. With so much farming and agriculture in the community, it’s an exciting contest each year. Plus, you’ll find plenty of local vendors to patronize from a variety of industries. Grab your favorite meal to go or learn about nearby manufacturers.
The Gratz Fair
Another local event with an impressive history is the Gratz Fair. While not as long-running as York Fair, it’s a close second for sure. This annual livestock display and competition started in 1873, it still has a loyal following. Each year, local farmers and ranchers come together to show off their animals.
The organization also awards scholarships to several area students. The Gratz Fair is also where some residents choose to get married. Whether you think you have riding skills or prefer watching, there is plenty to do. You can’t miss this local favorite when September rolls around again.
Apple Festival
An Apple Festival each year must keep at least some doctors away. At the end of September, the community comes together to welcome the fall season. You can expect to see dozens of local food vendors and hundreds of craft booths. Whether you love apple pie, apple sausage, or caramel apples, they have it all available.
You will also see plenty of local livestock and live entertainment options. Children can enjoy activities, games, face painting, and other events. Attending the Apple Festival is a great way to meet your friends and neighbors. Even if you’re out of room for pie, you can enter the raffle drawing for prizes.
Pumpkin Glow
Pumpkin Glow is a family-friendly start to the spooky season at Hershey Gardens. Here, visitors of all ages can enjoy autumn festivities and Halloween celebrations. Of course, with a name like Pumpkin Glow, you expect to see just that. Luckily, the gardens don’t disappoint with plenty of Jack-o-Lanterns and scarecrows to spot.
While hunting down the hundreds of cut or painted pumpkins, you can enjoy more fun as well. Try your hand at the scavenger hunt or rest up while watching a puppet show. Even without little ones, this annual event is a fun one to attend. No additional tickets are required other than admission to Hershey Gardens.
Celebrate Wildwood
With so many outdoor areas and reliance on agriculture, PA celebrates our partnership with nature. At the annual Celebrate Wildwood event, visitors can participate in many activities. You will see a variety of animal-based exhibits and history challenges. Attendees can also listen to speakers and educator presentations as well.
If that doesn’t sound fun enough, fret not, because there is more to enjoy. Check out the live entertainment options, including musicians and magicians. Best of all, attending Celebrate Wildwood is free, while some activities charge extra. However, it remains an affordable way to teach families about the importance of conservatorship.
