Five Senses Garden | Capital Green Belt, Harrisburg, PA
Who doesn’t love a stroll through the flowers every once in a while? Even if it isn’t your thing, the price is right – free admission with reservations.
The Five Senses Garden is a volunteer-run, non-profit botanical garden operating sunup to sundown daily. Even on holidays, it’s possible to take a breather here, granted there are spots available.
The garden boasts an impressive display of plants that also attract butterflies and other insects. Best of all, you can find it located at the Capital Green Belt.
True to its name, visitors can find mystery flowers and braille signage. For a real all-ages experience, this is a must-see green belt attraction.
Indian Echo Caverns | Hummelstown, PA
Few sites in Dauphin County have remained open as long as Indian Echo Caverns. Technically available to the public back in the 1920s, the first visitors go back much further. These caverns have seen people come and go for thousands of years. Today, they are a top attraction, as they remain a cool 52 degrees year-round.
You can take an official tour of this unique landmark or explore it alone. They also don’t charge for parking, making this an affordable stop. Inside, you’ll see cave pools, stalactites, and sights you won’t find anywhere else. If nothing else, it’s somewhere to cool off in the summer.
Harrisburg Doll Museum | State Street, Harrisburg, PA
Formerly “The Doll House Museum”
Some people find dolls fascinating, while others see them as frightening. Either way, the Harrisburg Doll Museum is a unique place to visit. Here, tourists can find over 5,000 toys and dolls, some dating hundreds of years old. This impressive display includes antiques, collectible pieces, and classic paper doll books.
Do you have a doll of your own that has seen better days? You can also visit the museum for repair services to restore your old toy like new. Hollywood has made older toys seem spooky, but they are also interesting to see. Note that this museum does operate seasonally, so double-check their hours before your visit.
Founder’s Hall| Milton Hershey School Campus, Hershey, PA
You can find the Founder’s Hall on the campus of Milton Hershey School. Here, you can learn about both Milton and his wife, as well as others. While it’s currently closed for renovations, there is a visitor’s center. Their website has announced that it will launch a virtual tour option soon.
This impressive landmark has welcomed guests since the 1970s and remains popular today. The famous rotunda invokes a sense of familiarity with domed capital buildings. The building still gets used today for administrative offices and student assemblies. Over the last 50 years, it has continued standing tall as an iconic local landmark.
Lake Tobias Wildlife Park | Halifax, PA
Lake Tobias Wildlife Park is one of many outdoor adventures available in the area. Unlike a zoo, this attraction operates as an open-air safari experience. With Tiger King focused on large cat ownership, it’s vital to support dedicated parks. This one has operated since 1965 and stayed within its family.
Tens of thousands of guests each year see a vast array of different animals. Discover African lions, Burmese pythons, Asian water buffalo, and other creatures, such as:
- American Black Bear
- Capybara
- East Africa Crowned Crane
- American Alligator
- De Brazza Monkey
- Dromedary Camel
- European Fallow Deer
- And others
The safari tours cross 150 acres of wildlife conservation, and there’s an onsite petting zoo. There is even a reptile exhibit that includes birds and other animals.
