Where is the Cumberland County Jail?

The detention facility sits in the heart of Cumberland County. You can find it at 1101 Claremont Road, Carlisle, PA, 17015. Inmates have access to a few different onsite services for money and property. In addition to phone calls and meals, they can own an outfit and receive mail.

Every service has its own set of procedures and punishments for breaking them. Even visitors need to be aware of what is allowed and what isn’t.

Who Operates the Cumberland County Jail?

Those who need to contact the jail can call them at (717) 245-8787. Warden Travis Shenk operates with three deputies, Michael Eickhoff, Rebekah Finkey, and Janet Kreider-Scott.

The History of Cumberland County Jail in PA

You may have passed by the site of the original jail recently and not realized it. The reason why is because it is now a set of non-descript county office buildings. While it retains its castle-like aesthetic, there isn’t much excitement happening there. However, some do claim that the old building does have some paranormal inmates still.

The community has held prisoners since at least 1753, and the same jail was used up until 1985. Only a couple of miles away sits the newer facility that’s currently in use. A fun fact about the original jail is that architect Edward Haviland designed it. His father, John, was the builder who brought its castle-like style into fashion.
